Focused on what matters
We welcome the new...
Ms. Theresa Hennessey joins the Mariner Family as our 4th Grade teacher for the 2019-20 school year. Ms. Hennessey is a 2016 graduate of the University of Houston - Victoria with a Bachelor of Arts in History. She previously worked for K12Online with Victoria College and also for Bloomington ISD. However, she is probably best known in our OLG community for her service at the church as a reader for Sunday Masses. We feel very blessed to have her join our team!
Ms. Devin Rose joins the Mariner Family to lead our MS Math program this year. Ms. Rose has a Bachelor of Science degree in Maritime Administration with a minor in Economics. After getting her degree from Texas A&M University in May 2013, she worked in the Maritime Industry gaining practical experience. Last fall she decided to pursue a career in education and worked part-time at our school as the CCISD Federal Programs Title Tutor. We are very excited to have her join us full time and to share her experience and love of math with our students.
We also welcome back Ms. Twinkle Johnson who returns as our Social Studies teacher.
We welcome a new Licensed Professional Counselor, Gail Janecka, as part-time school counselor for OLG. Ms. Janecka's experience working with students and families spans over 25 years within Victoria ISD, at Victoria College, and within the Diocese of Victoria. Now retired from the public school system, she also works part-time as school counselor for Nazareth Academy in addition to serving clients at the Emmaus Center. Ms. Janecka is licensed by the State of Texas as a Professional Counselor (#73285). She completed both of her degrees—a Bachelor of Arts in Education (English & Psychology) and Master of Education (Counseling) at the University of Houston-Victoria. She will be working with our students and faculty to serve individual and group needs across all grade levels.
and bid farewell to those leaving...
Our LPCs, Ralph and Minnie Cormier have decided to take a well-deserved retirement. We wish them happy travels.
Mr. Richard Chen joined St. Joseph High School, so we wish him well in his new endeavors. As we work with St. Joseph on curriculum, we will be seeing him often.
Ms. Patty Weaver left to focus on her family and their family business. We wish her success and happiness in all her endeavors.

Life on Board
Academic - Curriculum
This year for the first time, we are introducing new opportunities in online learning. We are benchmarking Edgenuity, which offers various courses and also remediation in reading and math. It creates an individualized learning path for each student, so that students can advance in their knowledge and skills no matter what their starting level.
Our school also invested in the latest English Language Arts program Into Reading Texas published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. The program includes differentiated and targeted instruction with progress monitoring for reading, vocabulary, writing, grammar, and more. The new program includes on-line interactive tools, digital assessments, instructional videos, leveled readers, and colorful textbooks and classroom materials to engage students in all aspects of Language Arts. OLG teachers attended training on the new program over the summer in El Campo (shown below).
