Summer Updates
Greetings Mariner Family! We hope everyone is having a wonderful summer! Things are busy on campus as we remodel Room 14, turn Room 1 into a Multipurpose Room for small meetings and student activities, and completely reorganize all our closets and files. We have been amazed at what has been squirreled away over the past 25 years and sometimes startled. It is a summer for cleaning house as we prepare for our upcoming accreditation visit from the TCCB-ED - our version of TEA.
We are also making plans to celebrate our school's 25th Jubilee on August 15th. It promises to be an exciting year filled with memories - old and new. Thank you for being a part of our Mariner story.

COVID-19 Protocols
Our COVID Task Force Team has revised protocols based on a review of the recent updates from the TEA. The Team encourages all eligible people to receive the vaccine (currently 12 years of age and older). We continue to put the safety of our students at the forefront. The following are protocols for the Fall:
- Wearing masks will be optional. We do, however, support the use of masks for anyone who prefers to wear one.
- Morning protocols with temperature checks will continue as a best practice.
- Plexiglass in grades K-4th will remain in place.
- Hand sanitizing stations will continue to be available.
- Students will attend daily Mass as a classroom and will be seated so they are grouped by class, and separated from other classes and parishioners as much as possible.
- 6th - 8th grade students will again have band, art, and PE classes together.
- K/1st, 2nd/3rd and 4th/5th will again have PE classes together.
- All students will eat in the cafeteria seated by grades levels. To maximize spacing, the cafeteria will be used only by staff and students during lunch. This will be in place for at least the first part of the year as we continue to monitor developments so as to open the campus safely.
- Parent/Teacher meetings can now occur by phone, Google Meet, within our Multipurpose room up front during teacher planning periods, or inside the classroom between 4pm-5pm.
- Enhanced cleaning procedures are now part of our normal routine.
- The office will continue to close during normal student arrival (7:30 - 7:55am) and dismissal (3:30 - 4:00pm) to allow office personnel to focus on student safety during these busy times.
- Because all after school, extra-curricular activities and events are optional for our students, masks will be optional but not be required during these activities for any participants or visitors. Visitors will be allowed to attend the games, performances, etc. inside the gym.
Please be aware that students' attendance via Remote Learning will no longer be recognized by the TEA.

OLG School's 25th Jubilee
On August 14, 1996, Rev. Dan Morales founded OLG Catholic School. To celebrate this event and the hundreds of people who have been involved in making this school a shining light for the community, a Jubilee celebration will be held August 15th on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary starting with a special Mass with Bishop Cahill at 3:00pm. Mark your calendars and stay tuned for details!

Mariner Alumni Group
With the celebration of our 25th Jubilee, we will also be introducing the Mariner Alumni Group for former students that attended our school through 8th grade. The purpose of this organization is to provide an opportunity for fellowship amongst Mariner Alumni while giving them an avenue to also stay connected with their Mariner family of faculty and current students. The hope is to promote alumni involvement and service within the community, parish, and school while also tracking and supporting the progress of our alumni through their academic careers. Members will also be eligible to apply for college scholarships from this organization their senior year of high school. Selection of scholarship recipients will be based on the applicant's involvement within the group and level of volunteering throughout the community during their high school years.

The last week of school students began their summer learning program, Freckle, and they loved it! Continue to encourage your children in 1st through 8th grades to work on the math and language arts activities their teacher has assigned to them. They can earn up to 3 free dress passes while continuing their learning and avoiding the dreaded summer slump. Also, the student in each grade with the most minutes using Freckle over the summer will receive a Sonic Gift Card!
|
|

Students also have the opportunity to earn a free dress pass by reading books in their ZPD reading range and taking Accelerated Reader tests over the summer. The library will be open for AR tests 11:00am - 1:00pm on July 13, 20, 27, and once school starts on August 10th.

A Summer Prayer
Long warm days...
The pace of life slows...
A time for picnics and rest in the shade...
Lord, help me to rest awhile
in the cooling shade of your presence.
Slow down my restless heart and
fill me with
gentle compassion for all your people.
