  • - A 3D TRNSYS thermal model representing the complex thermal behavior of Kieran Timberlake's office space in Philadelphia matched measured data extremely well.

  • - The successful implementation of a hybrid natural ventilation system in an existing building.

What we're excited about

  • - The realization of a vision of "living and working around water" with this one-of-a-kind structure that juts directly out of the sea.

  • - The shape, size and orientation of the windows allow views to the fjord, forest and harbor as well as the right amount of sunlight into the building.

Rwanda Institute for Conservation Agriculture (RICA), Bugesera District, Eastern Province, Rwanda

 

Architect MASS Design Group

RICA is an agricultural institute in the eastern province of Rwanda set to open in 2019 with the mission to prepare entrepreneurs with critical skills to contribute to modernized and sustainable agriculture.
Transsolar's role in the project is to make the entire campus as low energy and resilient as possible, since the school will rely on its own photovoltaic array for electricity. All the buildings on campus have been optimized to be fully daylit and to provide year-round comfort using only natural ventilation.

 


 

Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), Toronto, ON, Canada

 

Architect Bucholz McEvoy Architects & ZAS Architects

This new facility of the Toronto Region and Conservation Authority (TRCA) Headquarters includes 90,000 square feet of adaptive office space in a mass timber building demonstrating TRCA's commitment to green infrastructure. The building combines innovative passive strategies, energy efficient systems, and on-site renewables in an environmentally-connected, user-centered way unprecedented in Toronto. The project is targeting LEEDv4 Platinum, WELL Silver and is a CaGBC Zero Carbon Building Standard pilot.


 

George Brown College – The Arbour, Toronto, ON, Canada

 

Architect Moriyama & Teshima Architects + Acton Ostry Architects

This 12-story mass timber building is a new addition to the George Brown College in Toronto, based on sustainability and designed for extremely low energy use. Groundbreaking is scheduled for 2021.

A prominent public park and recreation center in downtown Toronto will be revitalized with a diverse mix of indoor and outdoor communal and public spaces.

The Carbon Neutral Campus

 

In May, Erik Olsen was invited by the Ontario Association of Physical Plant Administrators (OAPPA) to give a presentation on the "Carbon Neutral Campus," discussing a study commissioned by Princeton University on what is required to achieve carbon neutrality by 2046.

 

AIA Talk on climate-responsive design


In May, Erik Olsen was invited by the AIA Chicago Cote to speak on the fundamental attitudes toward collaboration that are critical to successful climate-responsive design.

 


Shri Bhave at "The Adaptive Facades Symposium"

 

At the 'The Adaptive Facades Symposium' held at Iowa State University's College of Design professionals from Academia, Architecture, Climate Engineering and Façade engineering shared their experiences on designing and building innovative façades and their perspectives on the past, present and the future of the role of façades in the buildings. Transsolar's Shri Bhave presented how Transsolar looks "beyond the façade" (figuratively) influencing building design to achieve high comfort low impact.


 

6th Annual Best of Design Awards


Pratik Raval was selected as a juror for The Architect's Newspaper 6th Annual Best Of Design Awards. The awards program showcases great buildings, building elements, interiors, and installation.
 


LEED Platinum for Karl Miller Center

 

On October 11, the Karl Miller Center at Portland State University achieved LEED Platinum certification from the US Green Building Council.


 


 

Transsolar Academy

  

Transsolar Academy Fellows Personal Project at New York's 10th International Conference on Urban Climate

 

Combining his love for his country – Greece – and a passion for comfortable living, Transsolar Academy fellow, Ioannis Karakounos focused on a singular project throughout his fellowship in 2017/18: how to reduce heat stress in public spaces in Greece and thus creating a comfortable outdoor environment. His findings were presented by Felix Thumm of the Transsolar New York office at New York's 10th International Conference on Urban Climate in August.
