Boss hits back at interns who claim they should be paid

An unpaid intern has criticised her former boss who labelled her as a lazy millennial who 'would rather work at Bunnings' than advance her career.

Anastasiya Tsymay, 19, is one of twenty-six young people who took part in a three-month placement at DFSM Consulting, who believe they were being exploited.

The 19-year-old said what was meant to be a learning experience was more like a regular job and should have come with a salary, news.com.au reported.

UN Official: Migrant surge "normal", U.S. should not reinforce border

The caravan of migrants making its way through Mexico is “kind of a normal event” and the United States ought not to reinforce its border against them, a United Nations official said on Friday.

With days to go before mid-term elections, U.S. President Donald Trump has called the surge of people an “invasion”, ordered troops to the border and suggested any rock-throwing by migrants should be treated as equivalent to gunfire.

A Rose in Winter - Geneva Peace Week screening

Be inspired by this re-telling of the story of Edith Stein - a champion of feminism, a Carmelite nun, a German Jew, a martyr in Auschwitz and a canonized saint.

Be enthused by her extraordinary, courageous path to survival, strong advocacy for feminism and search for peace.
Stein’s legacy today is more relevant than ever. Let’s learn from the past to build peace for the future.

The screening will be followed by a discussion on the theme "Lessons for the future of peacebuilding: how can history enlighten current practices to face the contemporary challenges of peace?"

Sustaining Peace in an Era of Climate Change

As part of the 2018 Geneva Peace Week, the IHEID Environmental Committee and Quaker United Nations Office present the panel discussion 'Sustaining Peace in an Era of Climate Change: Policy and Practice for Preventing Conflict'.

Climate change and other current environmental crises are a direct threat in themselves and a multiplier of many other threats, including poverty, displacement and violent conflict. How can a rights-based approach to climate action and natural resource management help sustain peace and prevent conflict in communities facing increasing and dangerous environmental disruption?

Nuit du conte en Suisse (Dans le Quartier des Grottes)

Every year since 1995, various partners throughout Switzerland have supported the cohesion and cultural diversity by participating in this national event proposed by the Swiss Institute for Youth and Media and Bibliomedia Switzerland, which traditionally takes place on the second Friday in November.

This oral tradition helps to remind us of the importance and interest of stories to nourish our collective imagination.
By bringing children and adults together for the pleasure of hearing stories, Storytelling Night in Switzerland is also an original way to promote the desire to share readings on a daily basis.
