UN Joint Inspection Unit Report on the 'Review of the Internship Programmes in the United Nations System'

The Joint Inspection Unit (JIU) of the United Nations System has published a report on the 'Review of the Internship Programmes in the United Nations System', as part of ongoing reform of human resources management in the United Nations system.

The review covers the period between 2009 and 2017, during which the size of internship programmes in the United Nations system grew significantly. The report makes 7 recommendations, recommendation 4 in particular is directed to the UN General Assembly that:-

"the General Assembly should request the United Nations Secretariat to update the human resource framework to include a category for interns, who should not be classified under “type I: gratis personnel”, thus facilitating the consideration of the introduction of compensation schemes, and to report to General Assembly at its next session under the agenda item on human resources."

The Fan Zone in Plainpalais is Back!

The Geneva Fan-zone in planpalais is up and running and will be showing the matches of the FIFA World Cup in Russia bringing about a festive and community atmosphere. This will be in place till July 15, 2018.

The fanzone involves four giant screens, thirty stands and numerous events which can allow up to 12,000 spectators to fully enjoy themselves. Beyond the football, and the lively crowds, you can also look forward to enjoying the wide variety of food stands and stalls set up by different local bars.

Practical advice:
  1. Try to come one hour before the start of matches you're interested in. Especially if its a particularly big one.
  2. Public transport and biking is more convenient than driving to and from the fan zone.
  3. You cannot enter the fan zone with liquids, bag checks are carried out at the entrance.
