CERN physicist suspended after saying "physics were invented and built by men" in presentation.

Particle physicists are not happy with Alessandro Strumia. Last week, the particle physicist gave a talk at CERNclaiming that men are innately better at physics research than women. Now, the high-energy physics community is pushing back.

The presentation, in which Strumia claimed that the reason there are more male physicists than female is because the men are “over-performing”, and that physics was “invented and built by men”, faced widespread and immediate backlash.

U.S seen likely to win in effort to shut down WTO's appeals court

The United States is likely to succeed in shutting down the World Trade Organization's supreme court because other WTO members are powerless to stop it, diplomats, lawyers and officials said at a conference in Geneva on Friday.

The United States has blocked appointments of judges to the Appellate Body, throwing the WTO into crisis as it runs out of legal muscle to rule on international trade disputes.

How much do internships matter?

Many college students seek out internships each year in order to gain job experience and beef up their resumes.

An internship is a position in a company or program offered to student applicants that can be either long- or short-term. Internships are usually found through colleges’ career centers, job fairs or alumni associations.

Internships bring college students benefits because they give these students the chance to undergo realistic circumstances that might exist in their future careers. Therefore, students can learn professional skills that the position requires to solve issues while at work.

The war on Plastic

Plastic seems to be an indispensable feature of our everyday lives. But our environment is at breaking point with plastic pollution. To take just one example, we throw 8 million tons of plastic into our oceans every year and by 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than there are fish!

Speaking from a range of perspectives – legal, civil society, enterprise, and governance, amongst others – the key stakeholders will elaborate upon the major fault-lines in regulating the production, use, and disposal of plastic products. They will also share their thoughts on emerging initiatives around plastic substitutes, recycling, clean-up projects and breaking society’s single-use mind-set. Audience members will also be very welcome to participate in the debate.

Carouge and it's hidden gardens

Behind the neatly restored façades, an unexpected world is opening in front of us: a small world, typically “carougeois”, which allows us to penetrate its mystery and welcomes us kind-hearted and somewhat mischievously.

Strolling around, we can see or guess the shape of a tree, of a bench behind the workshop of a craftsman, those elements which make us dream of hidden courtyards and secret gardens.
