From your UUCA Board of Trustees:

General Assembly
is an annual meeting of our Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA).  This year the General Assembly will take place June 24-28, 2020 in Providence, Rhode Island.  The early registration is open through March 15, 2020.  “The number of delegates of a certified member congregation shall be equal to the number of members of the congregation divided by UUA Bylaws fifty, plus one delegate for any fraction remaining, provided that each certified member congregation shall be entitled to at least two delegates.”

UUCA is seeking between 10-12 diverse and intergenerational delegates to represent UUCA at the General Assembly.  Please clearly review these links and if you are interested in serving as a delegate, please email the board at board@uuca.org by March 1, 2020

Donuts and Discussion is scheduled for Sunday, March 1, 2020 from 10:35am-10:55am to discuss the activities at a typical General Assembly and this proposed bylaw change:  Article XIII- Section B. Additional Minister: Additional Minister shall be a minister in fellowship with the UUA or be a credentialed minister in another denomination and hold Aspirant or Candidate status for fellowship with the UUA.

Your board is humbled to serve this congregation.

Landscaping for UUCA's New Home

We are excited about the sustainable, seventh principle (interconnected web) ideas our landscape architect has shared for our new home at 2650 North Druid HIlls Road. Members of UUCA's memorial garden team, playground team, gardening team and Project Phoenix Steering Committee will meet with Michael Kidd of Root Design Studios in early March to discuss options for our grounds.  Contact DeAnn Peterson (dpuucaphoenix@gmail.com) for details.

Project Phoenix Outreach

Project Phoenix Steering Committee Co-Lead DeAnn Peterson met with UUCA members and friends at Parkside Senior Living recently to share drawings and information regarding UUCA's new home. This opportunity allowed time to share opinions and feelings, and to reconnect with  dear friends.

On Thursday evening, UUCA member Furman Riley will offer the fourth in a five part series on Tai Chi Chih from 7:30- 8:30 PM in the Sanctuary.

Tai Chi Chih (TCC) is an alternative Form of Tai Chi which is based on movements one executes somewhat like ballet movements... from one designated movement to the next one. The movements are executed first on the left side and then on the right side, etc.  With regular execution and commitment, TCC provides the participants with a practice which has the potential of improving balance, increased energy, stamina, and focus, i.e. concentration. In each session, a Practice portion at the end is designed to promote serenity and spiritual fulfillment as one enters into the closing experience.

On Wednesday from 10:30 -12:30 in Room 5, UUCA member and Lay Minister Kay Golan will be leading a continuation of her popular program on Spirituality & Aging.

UUCA'S CARBON OFFSET FUND

Worried about the Climate Crisis? Want to help? Please donate to UUCA’s Carbon Offset Fund!

If you take a trip in a cruise ship, RV, or plane, help offset the carbon emissions caused by your trip. A general rule of thumb is to estimate your donation at 3 cents per mile traveled; or, whatever contribution you give would be appreciated. In the future, you may check out the UUCA website for the Carbon Offset Calculator.

How to donate to the fund:
Just write a check to “UUCA” with “Carbon Offset Fund” or “COF” in the subject line.
If you have questions, please contact Hoke Kimball at
hokekimball@bellsouth.net or Sue Certain at sccertain@comcast.net.

Contributions will pay for environmental projects not otherwise funded at the new building. The Climate Action Team thanks you, and Planet Earth thanks you.

BIG BETHEL SATURDAY ACADEMY SEEKS VOLUNTEERS

Big Bethel's Saturday Academy is a UUCA Partner in Education in the Hope Hill Neighborhood, with whom we have worked for almost a decade. Their program supports underserved children with meals, academic activities, as well as fun activities on Saturdays.

We are looking for a few more UUCA volunteers who can (a) help plan math curriculum (i.e., Grs.3-5) or (b) help plan and organize field trips so these children can learn about the world outside their immediate neighborhood. The hours for the above activities can be arranged and need not be on Saturdays.

For more information, please contact Beth Davis etdavis6@earthlink.net with your questions and contact information.
