Dear UUCA Members and Friends,

We recently learned that, after 12 years of devoted service, Rev. Anthony Makar has been selected by West Shore Unitarian Universalist as their candidate for Senior Minister. Anthony’s last Sunday with us will be June 16. We hope you can join us as we grieve his leaving and celebrate his service.

As I shared with the congregation during our April 7 services, losing a senior minister is never easy, especially when we have built community together for 12 years. Some of us are experiencing pain, anger, abandonment, frustration, anxiety, grief. Please know that your board is walking this path with you and has experienced and will experience many of the same emotions. It is important, in this time of change, to hold each other especially close in love and compassion. Self-soothing is needed. Sharing with each other is needed. Time to process is needed. And action is also needed.

Please visit the new Project Phoenix website: Enhancements are continuing to be made.

Option voting is continuing until the end of April.  On-line voting is available HERE.  You are also invited to participate in the dot voting in the reception area.

An additional tour of our property at 2650 N. Druid Hill is being scheduled for May.  Stay tuned for further details.

The journey of a Unitarian Universalist minister is as unique as each minister, but they all complete a rigorous course of formal education, experiential requirements, and vetting by representatives of the UUA. In preparation for the Ordination of Taryn Strauss, join us on Sunday, April 21st, for The Minister's Path in Unitarian Universalism where you will learn how a career as a UU minister begins and what the leaders of our faith go through before they bring their messages from the pulpit to you. The class will be taught by our resident experts on this subject:  Dr. Tony Stringer who was for many years a member of the UUA Ministerial Fellowship Committee, and Lyn Conley who was a member of the UUA Board of Trustees

Our Caring Community
The Lay Minister beginning April 14 is Bruce Gaunt.

We send love and sympathy to Michael Dangerfield, who grieves the death last week of his father, Larry Dangerfield. He died peacefully at home, in hospice care, surrounded by his four children.  Cards and letters of condolence are welcome.

We send love and sympathy to Robin Kottman, whose father died last week.  Cards and letters of condolence are welcome.

We send healing thoughts and prayers for Tony Knuppel’s mother Cheryl, who is recovering from surgery on her cervical spine to remove a benign tumor.  Everything went well but she will have to wear a neck brace for the coming weeks as she heals.

The plate on April 14  will go to Atlanta Wildlife Animal Rescue Effort (AWARE).  The AWARE Wildlife Center is located in south Dekalb County near Arabia Mountain.  The center rehabilitates injured and orphaned native Georgia wild animals and educates the public about peaceful coexistence with wildlife.  In 2018, the center accepted over 1,300 wild patients, including owls, hawks, songbirds, hummingbirds, possums, raccoons, turtles, snakes, and more.  The AWARE staff treat injuries, raise orphans, and give all patients a second chance at a wild life. The staff provided approximately 250 educational programs at the center and at schools, churches, businesses, and festivals in the Atlanta area.  If you are unable to attend Sunday's services, you can make a gift by texting "UUCA" and the dollar amount you would like to give to 73256.
