Welcome to the last Empathy Digest of the year!

Wow, can you believe 2020 is almost over? Sometimes it still feels like March, other times January feels like it happened several years ago. This last edition is a round-up of everything that happened in the last two months – and what we're looking forward to in the new year.
Check out our past Empathy Digest issues here

What we're celebrating:

Our little team is GROWING!

Three weeks ago, we welcomed Khema on-board as an intern, making the Tribeless Team five (!!) people strong.

When I first handed over the reigns of CEO to Shawn at the end of 2018, one of the first things he told me was: "I want to build a team. I want to create a place where everyone feels excited and empowered to work."

At the end of what has been the craziest year of Tribeless's history, we never imagined we'd be in a position to bring this vision to life... to slowly but surely gather and nurture a team of brilliant, kind, like-minded people. :')

Khema has been a remarkable addition so far. You'll experience a taste of her work via the latest campaign we launched on socials – #12DaysOfReflection.
New prompts will be uploaded everyday until Christmas Day. Shawn and I have already uploaded our reflections for Day 1: "Change" ... will you join us? 😂

My TEDx talk is finally LIVE!

World, meet my first ever TEDx talk –– "Empathy In Action: Five cards for every conversation." It is a summary, a sonnet, a love song to the first 4 years of Tribeless.

Delivering this talk was a lot like delivering a baby, though I'm sure the latter is a lot more physically painful. Despite all the agony, the insecurity, the sleepless nights, the technical malfunctions (I actually re-filmed the talk, which is why the lighting is so 🤮)... This is probably one of my proudest moments in 2020.

If you've ever wondered why empathy is important, how I fumbled my way into this line of (heart)work, or what you can do to practice empathy in your own everyday conversations... This TEDx talk is for you. ❤️

(I'm so heartened by the positive feedback this talk has received. Folks have been sharing it, forwarding it, commenting on it – I can't tell you how much this means to me. Thank you for all your love!!!)

In other news...

Last month, R.AGE released a video about my journey with empathy – what it is, how to practice it, and its impact on my life. It was written for younger audiences, so if you're looking to share empathy with your students, do write me! Watch it here
I had the pleasure of joining Sabrina from Calm Collective on a fireside chat on Empathy X Mental Health. Watch the 1-hour chat here
We hosted #EmpathyCircles as a part of Anita Nowak's yearly winter tradition, Ode To Soup, for a group of 20 inspiring women! Our favorite comments: "This felt like a virtual hug. I want more!" "It was so eye-opening and felt so warm and safe."
We had so much fun doing a test-run of The Empathy Workshop with our closest supporters before doing it for a big corporate client. It was a huge hit both times...can't wait to do more!

Bring the year to a close with us

Our last #EmpathyCircles of 2020

in collaboration with Calm Collective Asia

Join us this Saturday 19 Dec, 3–5pm SGT for a fun, immersive and interactive experience of storytelling and connection. We will be reflecting on our year, listening to stories, and practicing our empathy skills in small groups.

All proceeds from this circle will go towards Calm Collective Asia, a nonprofit in Singapore that's creating conversations around mental health :)

Thank you for reading! 2020 has been a crazy, wild and beautiful year, and we are both hopeful and nervous about what's to come. In the coming year, we'll be undergoing a transformation of sorts, gaining clarity on our purpose, our audience, and our organizational identity – so our communications (this newsletter included!) will be evolving along with it.

Thank you for being such loyal readers and supporters over the years – we absolutely wouldn't be where we are today without you.

Big hugs, and we'll see you in 2021 :)

Love,

Gwen Yi

That's it for our fifth & last edition of Empathy Digest!

It's not the end of a Tribeless newsletter without some form of interaction here, aye? So here's the deal: We skipped November's edition because there wasn't enough content, but we know consistency matters too.

Tell us – which is more important to you? :)
