Gratitude is the best way to express my feelings as we approach our busiest month of the season. Challenge Aspen has welcomed a tremendous outpouring of support this season as we continue our recovery work in serving our community through COVID.
Participants have returned to the slopes after being unable to travel, volunteers have showed up day after day to give their time, partners and sponsors have increased financial support to ensure REC and CAMO programming continues at capacity, and our staff and instructors have committed to creating boundless opportunities for inclusive participation. Thank you for continuing to advocate for inclusivity, keeping Challenge Aspen in your heart, and creating possibilities for people with disabilities.
There is still time to visit us in person through upcoming events like Special Olympics and NASTAR Nationals. We hope to see you on the slopes! Lindsay Cagley
Decorated Challenge Aspen Racers at X-Games Unified
Through Special Olympics, our local athletes combined their talent with professional Olympians and X-Games competitors, competing in snowboarding and skiing events. HUGE congratulations to Matthew, who placed 7th in snowboarding and Tanner, who placed 3rd in skiing!
Challenge Aspen Military Opportunities (CAMO) Programming
CAMO Programming is in full swing as the ski season is over 75 days in! We’ve had an incredible and diverse population of veterans from across the USA learning how to slide downhill on skis, snowboards, sit-skis, and snow bikes. Although our winter 2022 retreats are full, summer 2022 programs are in the works, and applications remain open for them.
US Army Veteran, Beth (pictured above at the top of Elk Camp at Snowmass), sums up her day with a quote from AC/DC – “It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock n’ roll”.
Join us February 11th for Special Olympics Regionals!
Our local REC athletes will be competing in the Special Olympics Western Regionals for ski racing tomorrow, February 11th from 9am-3pm at Sunlight Mountain Resort in Glenwood Springs! You will be able to see the races from the bottom of the hill, so you don’t need to ski or purchase a lift ticket to view. Come support our incredible Challenge Aspen race team!
We have officially finished our winter volunteer trainings! Thank you to all of the trainers, staff, and volunteers who participated. If you have not filled out the mid-season volunteer review, you can access it here.
During the month of January, we recorded 402 volunteer hours and it's not slowing down with plenty of volunteer needs for February and March!
