SECTION I - A MESSAGE FROM THE ARCHBISHOP
 

Official Appointment
In order to serve the people of the Archdiocese of  New Orleans, Archbishop Aymond has made the following appointment:
 
· Rev. Stephen Leake will serve as Temporary Administrator at Immaculate Conception Parish in Marrero, effective January 15, 2023.

Announcements
  • I will celebrate Mass at 12:00 PM on Thursday, January 5, 2023, in unity with Pope Francis who will be presiding at the Funeral Mass of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI in Rome.
  • Bishop-elect John Tran will be honored at the Epiphany Gathering for Priests on Thursday, January 5, 2023.  The evening will begin with vespers at 5:30 PM at Notre Dame Seminary Chapel, followed by a reception in Schulte Hall.   Please see the attached invitation.
  • Archbishop Hughes and I will be attending the Region V Bishops’ Retreat from January 8-12, 2023.
  • The Feast of Our Lady of Prompt Succor will be celebrated at 4:00 PM on January 8, 2023, at the Shrine of Our Lady of Prompt Succor, 2701 State St., New Orleans.
  • The opening Mass for the Go! Gulf Coast Faith Formation Conference is at 9:00 AM on Friday, January 13, 2023, at the Pontchartrain Center.  To register for the Conference go to https://go4th.faith/.   It is a great opportunity for continuing education for those in ministry.
  • Louisiana Right to Life's  Proudly Pro-Life Gala will be held Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the New Orleans Convention Center.  Dinner begins at 7:00 PM.  Click here for more information and to purchase tickets.
  • The Institute for Lay Ecclesial Ministry (ILEM) at Notre Dame Seminary will Commission several graduates on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at 11:00 AM Mass at St. Louis Cathedral.
  • The Administrative Offices of the Archdiocese of New Orleans will be closed on Monday, January 16, 2023,  in observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.  The offices will re-open on Tuesday, January 17, 2023.
  • I will be joining our young people in Washington D.C. for the March for Life from January 18-21, 2023.  Please keep us in prayer.
  • The Episcopal Ordination of Bishop-elect John Tran will take place at 2:00 PM (EST), on Monday, January 23, 2023, at the Cathedral of Christ the King in Atlanta.  The event will be livestreamed at: https://livestream.com/archatl/bishoptran
  • In connection with the celebration of Catholic Schools Week, we will take up a second collection in all parishes on January 28-29, 2023, to support Catholic schools.  Please click here to view my letter.  Thank you for your support in this matter.

Howard Avenue Building
Parish clergy and staff are asked to make note that all offices located at the Howard Ave. building have relocated or are in the process of moving. Please make the necessary changes in your mailing lists to ensure that US Mail is delivered promptly and on time to the appropriate office. All offices have provided forwarding addresses to the postal service, but your attention to this matter is greatly appreciated.
 
2023 Priest Retreats

Confessors Needed for Archdiocesan Men's Conference
All priests within the Archdiocese of New Orleans are asked to consider helping with confessions during the Archdiocesan Men’s Conference on Saturday, March 4, 2023. Priests can sign up for confession slots by clicking this link. We need the most confessors between 10:15-11:30am. For more information, contact Fr. Andrew Gutierrez at agutierrez@arch-no.org.

2023 GO! Gulf Coast Faith Formation Conference
We are very excited to be able to gather again in person for the Gulf Coast Faith Formation Conference, which has been forming priests, deacons, parish and school leaders, and catechists/teachers throughout the Gulf Coast region and beyond since the 1970s. The theme for the 2023 Conference is “Behold, I Make All Things New!” and it will be held January 13-14 at the Pontchartrain Center in Kenner, LA. Silver Wedding Anniversary Celebration
 The Office of Marriage and Family Life is pleased to announce that the annual Silver Wedding Anniversary Celebration will be held on Sunday, March 26, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, New Orleans. This prayer service will honor couples who are celebrating or have recently celebrated their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary.  The celebration is open to couples married between 1993 - 1998. To register, please contact your parish office before Tuesday, January 17, 2023.  Please Note: The Silver Wedding Anniversary celebration is a prayer service, not a Mass and will not fulfil the couple’s Sunday obligation.  Couples should plan to attend Mass at their home parishes. 
 
Instructions for Parishes:  Please share the above announcement in your bulletin, social media, or other suitable places. Parishes are asked to register couples for the ANO Silver Anniversary Celebration using an online form, which may be found at www.nolacatholic.org/wedding-anniversary no later than Tuesday, January 24, 2023 to facilitate the sending of confirmation letters, preparing of scrolls, and seating of the couples.  Your cooperation in maintaining this deadline is appreciated, as no registrations will be accepted for the Celebration after January 24th.  Contact the Office of Marriage and Family Life at mfl@arch-no.org with any questions.
 
Martin Luther King Jr. Day On Not Off Returns on January 16
The Office of Black Catholic Ministry, The Department of Catholic Schools and Faith Formation, The CYO Youth & Young Adult Ministry Office, and Catholic Charities are collaborating together to bring back the Martin Luther King Jr. Day On Not Off Service Day on January 16, 2023.  We will begin with a prayer service and sendoff with Archbishop Aymond that morning at the CYO Office.  Registration Packets have been mailed to High Schools and Parishes.  They are due back to the OBCM by January 6th so that we can organize volunteers.  Also, if you would like to offer your parish/school/organization as a service site for that day, please let us know.  All inquiries can be sent to the Office of Black Catholic Ministries at bcatholics@arch-no.org.  A registration packet with all the information is attached as well.
 
Christ in the City & Catholic Young Professionals Speaker Series Combine on January 10
Young adults are invited on Tuesday, January 10th to kick off the new year the right way with two great events on one night!  Christ in the City, the monthly Holy Hour sponsored by the CYO/Youth & Young Adult Ministry Office, will take place at 6:30 PM at Notre Dame Seminary Chapel (2901 S. Carrollton Ave., New Orleans) followed by Young Catholic Professionals New Orleans’ monthly Executive Speaker Series at 7:30 PM at Notre Dame Seminary featuring Louis Rodriguez (CEO, Cypress Communities.)  For more information, please contact James Behan, Jr. at yam@arch-no.org.

Annulment Writing Workshop
The Archdiocese of New Orleans will offer a writing workshop for persons seeking an annulment in the Catholic Church or for persons responding to an annulment. The series will be held on (3) consecutive Saturdays: February 11,  18, & 25, 2023 from 9 AM - 12 Noon in the Parish Center of St. Clement of Rome (4317 Richland Avenue, Metairie)  The cost for the workshop and materials is $25.00. 2023 Marriage Preparation Dates Are Live
Couples preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage can now register for the 2023 calendar of Catholic Engaged Encounter weekends, as well as Days for the Engaged and Special Marriage Preparation sessions!  To learn which options are right for you and sign up, visit nolacatholic.org/getting-married-1. Retrouvaille Weekend for Troubled Marriages
Retrouvaille is a program designed to provide help and support to married couples who are undergoing difficulties in their relationship.  Sponsored by the Catholic Church, Retrouvaille is open to couples of all faiths.  It has proven helpful to couples who are troubled and stressed, or if the relationship has grown cold and distant. The next Retrouvaille Weekend will be January 13-15, 2023, at the William J.
