Welcome to the latest HeppSY Newsletter

It's been another busy month at HeppSY. We celebrated National Careers and National Apprenticeships Week at the beginning of March, and all the specialist delivery team were extremely busy delivering inspiring activity across the region (head over to our twitter page to catch up with what our HEPAs got up to).

We are now looking forward to the summer and
our Annual Conference on the 11th June 2020. If you have not confirmed your attendance please do and we will look forward to seeing you at our celebrations.

We hope you enjoy reading about some of our activity in this newsletter. We look forward to continuing to work with you and your students throughout the rest of this academic year.

HeppSY Speaking at National Career Guidance Show

An exciting CPD opportunity coming up is through the free National Career Guidance Shows taking place in Leeds and Coventry in March and aimed at careers leaders, advisers and teachers. Visitors can attend seminars from keynote speakers on relevant and contemporary topics, learn from insight and industry talks, network with like-minded professionals and meet targeted organisations and companies. We are pleased to share that Rachel Crowder and Caroline Hanson from HeppSY will be a leading a seminar at the Coventry event on 24th March, entitled “Collaboration is key! Creating an inclusive careers programme through partnerships.”

Careers Digital Suite

Your HE Progression Advisers have created a series of subject specific slides to be used as starter activities in subject lessons, to help link students' learning to the courses or careers they could do in the future. There are 5-6 simple slides for each subject, informing students of the skills they are developing, careers relating to that subject and university level courses in that subject area.

The slides are a great way of working towards Gatsby benchmark 4 – ‘linking curriculum learning to careers’. To continue this learning, your regional HE Progression Adviser can do a ‘careers in the curriculum’ follow up session.
Contact your Schools and Colleges Programme Manager for more information.

You can find the Careers Digital Suite here.
HeppSY Coffee Morning

We are looking forward to inviting our colleagues from University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University to our HeppSY offices for a celebratory coffee morning in April.

The event will showcase the work we have been doing across South Yorkshire to engage more students with the different HE options available to them.
Guest Blog

This month's HEPA blog has been written by Martin Flynn, a Schools and Colleges Engagement Coordinator at Sheffield Hallam University. The blog focuses on degree apprenticeships, something Martin specialises in within his role.

In the blog you will find some key facts as well as some common misconceptions which Martin explains. The blog is a useful tool for those unsure about degree apprenticeship routes and what can be studied.

A regional hub has been launched across South Yorkshire to reach even more young people considering their options. The HeppHub can be accessed here.
