Dear St Jude families and friends,

We had a great start to the new year as the student’s returned to a rainy week at school!  More rain is expected during our shortened week next week. Please be prepared for possible classroom pickup days.

First Annual Art Exhibit

Spruce up and join us in the parish hall for a fun evening of celebrating ART! All families are invited on Wednesday, January 25th from 5-6pm to view all the brilliant works of art created by SJS students. Tickets will not be sold for this event, but donations are encouraged and gladly accepted. 100 percent of proceeds collected will be used to grow the art program at our school.

Art comes in many different forms so rules are intended to not be overly restrictive. Entries must not be larger than 18”x24” and may not require any power source. Canvas, paper, wood, framed or unframed. All acceptable! Artist name must be written on the back of the student's artwork. Each student’s artwork will be entered into a grade level divisions. Artwork will be judged based on it's display of creativity and authenticity. The winning art pieces will be displayed at the school until next year's art show! Parents, please remember that this is a friendly contest and a chance for us to celebrate each child’s creativity, individuality and artistic abilities.

SJS students of all ages may enter! Each student that enters will receive a free dress ticket! Encourage your child to enter, they won’t regret it. All submissions need to be complete and brought to the school office no later than Monday Jan 23rd. Student only voting, 1 vote ballot per SJS student. Winners will be announced Jan 26th .

  • Kinder-2nd grade will be placed in the “Pastor’s Division” and will have the chance to win the Pastor’s Award. Their piece will be hung in the church rectory all year!

  • 3rd-5th grade will be placed in the “Principal’s Division” and will have the chance to win the Principal’s Award. Their piece will be hung in Mr. Freel’s office all year!

  • 6th-8th grade will be placed in the “Main Division” and will have the chance to win the 1st Annual SJS Art Award. Their piece will be hung in the main office all year!

Volunteer Hours

A friendly reminder that it’s time to check your volunteer hour total in the Helper Helper app! Simply go to the app and click on “View Stats and Goals” to view your validated hours. Each family is required to complete 40 hours of volunteer work per school year with 5 of the hours dedicated to our Christian Service program. Events such as Penny Wars, the  Canned Food Drive, Valentine's Dance, upcoming class parties and activities, the Mother-Son Bowling event, and our 40th Gala (and more!) will all require the help of our amazing volunteers! Watch the Helper Helper app for many new opportunities posted soon!

Questions? Contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Lea Robison at lea.r@gcclaims.com.

Next Week’s Reminders

Friday, January 13th is a staff in-service day and Monday, January 16th is Martin Luther King Day. There is no school on both of these days. Also, rain is expected again next week. Be prepared for classroom pickup if it is wet and raining.

Have a great weekend!

New Volunteer Opportunity With The St. Jude Children’s Liturgy

Have you ever wondered during Sunday mass whether there was a way to bring the Scripture to our children at a level they can more easily understand and relate to?  Join the Children’s Liturgy of the Word team at the Sunday 10am mass!  This is an opportunity to earn service hours during Sunday mass while helping to share our faith with the youngest members of our St. Jude’s community.  The commitment is only one Sunday per month with flexibility to choose your weeks.  Reach out to Rick & Teresa Ysasi if you’d like to explore this great opportunity to help advance our school’s mission - forming young people in the image of Christ.  Email teresaysasi@gmail.com for more information.

Becoming Catholic

Are you interested in becoming Catholic?  The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which people can question, search and inquire into the Catholic faith.  At St. Jude, members of our parish partner with those who are journeying to become fully initiated Catholics (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation).  We recognize that people are in all different places in their journey and we are here to help you in any way we can.
