Papier will move to the Port of Montreal’s Grand Quay in 2019

A spectacular new venue for the 12th edition of the fair

Montréal, October 4, 2018 - The Contemporary Art Galleries Association (AGAC) is proud to announce that Papier’s 12th edition will be held from April 25 to April 28 at the Port of Montreal’s Grand Quay. The new cruise terminal, inaugurated in 2017, boasts an exceptional location close to downtown and is part of the legacy of Montréal’s 375th anniversary.

By setting up at the Grand Quay, the fair will double its size. The Association welcomes this opportunity to offer galleries and visitors a larger venue with bright, airy spaces and spectacular views of the city and the St. Lawrence River. This new location will also make it easier for Papier to accommodate a growing audience.

The windows of the Grand Quay's terminal offer a stunning view of the river.

Winds of change: the fair opens up to other mediums

For the first time, the fair will include mediums other than works on paper, giving visitors the chance to discover and appreciate a wide range of contemporary art practices. Nonetheless, works on paper will continue to constitute the majority of the artworks presented by the galleries.

"This is an exciting development," says François Babineau, Chair of AGAC’s Board. "We found that galleries and our audience – who have been following us for more than 10 years – were keen to present and discover works made in other media. At the Grand Quay, the galleries will have the space needed to show larger works, for example paintings or sculptures.”

"For art lovers and collectors, this is a wonderful opportunity to encounter works of artists that were not usually found at Papier. While remaining true to its origins, the event is expanding. Over the years, its growing reputation has ensured that today, the fair is ready to develop this part of the market," notes Julie Lacroix, Director of AGAC.

The Association, which looks forward to this change with great enthusiasm, stresses that Papier will remain accessible, affordable and educational – fundamental features of the event that have contributed to its success for the past 11 years.

Visitors will enjoy the esplanade and outdoor lounging areas on the terminal's green roof and along the pier.
