The Board of Trustees held a study session to learn more about and discuss the middle school elective offerings in the District. Middle school principals shared with Board members which electives are currently being taught at their sites. Board members had the opportunity to ask questions and gather information about the needs and limitations of courses being offered.
The auditing firm of Vavrinek, Trine, Day, and Co. shared a report of the Annual Audit for the District as of June 30, 2018. The audit showed “no findings” for financial statements, federal awards findings and questioned costs, state awards findings and questioned costs, nor summary schedule of prior audit findings. Board members voted unanimously to accept the Annual Audit Report.
Assistant Superintendent of Business Services, Patti Ernsberger and Director of Fiscal Services, Evangeline Reyes presented a report of the 2019-2020 Governor’s State Budget Proposal. Overall themes from the report show meager growth in Prop 98 and that the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) is flat with an increase to COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment). The new governor will be placing a priority on early childhood education. The proposed state budget includes a one-time payment to State Teachers’ Retirement System (STRS). This will lower the District’s contribution rate by one percent for 2019/2020 and 2020/2021. The State also plans to retain the Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program.
Board members approved Resolution #6-2018/19 which is a contract with Enviroplex for the Anderson Preschool building utilizing the Willow Unified School District piggyback contract.
Other annual personnel items, contracts/contract adjustments, and consent agenda items were also approved.
The Moreland Board of Trustees will be holding additional Study Sessions during the spring. Topics will include student social-emotional and behavior support and technology/educational services. Exact dates and times will be included in upcoming board agendas.
