Sustain Summit 2018 follow up:

Hi friends!

It's been a while since we last saw each other and it's about time we shared a bit of what's been going on in our community.

- Indeed launched their Sustainability Fund! Check out Duane O'Brien's talk: Sustaining FOSS projects by democratizing the sponsorship process

- We started (but failed to keep up) a Corporate Funding Index, an open index of corporations and their respective grants to open source projects. There's a working prototype here, we need someone to take the lead on it!

- Greg Bloom is leading a conversation about applying Ostrom's Principles for managing our commons to Open Source. Read how it's going here and join!

- The Open Source Community Africa (OSCA) is organizing meetups in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Kenya. They are receiving contributions and organizing their events on their open collective.

- We are planning on doing a series of virtual meetings around topics. Gunner would like to do one on Project Governance in the face or growing corporate contributions and Nick Vidal (OSI) put his hand up for one the assault on the Open Source License. Stay tuned and reach out for ideas

- Last but not least, the Sustain our Software podcast has launched! Rich Littauer, Eric Berry & Pia Mancini from our community joined forces with Jon Schlinkert & Chuck Wood to make it happen. We are booked out solid until December!! Follow our twitter for release.

Where to we go from here?

Now the million dollar question... Where to we go from here? The organizing team of the previous two Sustain events is putting forward an idea: What if instead of having another yearly event we organize a series of events during one week around the world? We want to extend the Sustain brand to all of you to take over and organize Sustain Community Events.

The goal is to decentralize the organization and enable folks to participate without having to travel / get visas. We'd put together facilitating guidelines as well as a kit to use the logo and branding.

We'd like to include the kit in the report, that's why we've bene holding off on sending it.

This is one idea, we'd love to hear your thoughts on it and/or alternative suggestions if any. We started a thread on the Discourse about it.

Rock on!

With love,
The Sustainers.
