Region 17 Winter Newsletter
I woke up the morning after Convention as the Region 17 Director. Thanks to the delegates at the last Regional meeting for supporting my candidacy. I look forward to working with all of you towards building a strong, resilient Region 17 for the future. I want to especially thank Terry Johnson who has guided the Region over the past 4 years and served on the executive committee for the past 10 (8 years as director and 2 years as secretary). Terry will continue on the Executive Committee as past Director and has been so helpful in sharing her knowledge and experience with me during this transition time. Terry will continue to also work on several AHA committees.

A full report on Convention will follow, but for those of you who were not able to attend, i wanted to share with you the guiding statements from President Nancy Harvey’s address “working together to make things better” and “together we grow”.
In 2018 Region 17 will face many changes – the most important being the changes of venue and dates for the regional show and securing future show dates and places. The Show Commission is actively working on this and we will hear their report at the next Regional Meeting.
At the AHA Board meeting we were informed that a court date has been set for March 2018 to resolve the dispute between the Purebred Arabian Trust and the AHA. As this unfolds I will keep you apprised. As well the President has struck 3 ad hoc committees:
⦁ A committee to review the regional structure of AHA
⦁ A grassroots development committee. and
⦁ A special task force to look at the specific age group of 20 – 40 year olds, as this age group has shown the greatest decline in AHA memberships
AHA continues to offer up to $300 matching funds to clubs that are planning promotional activities. As we continue to think of ways of promoting the Arabian horse I wanted to remind you of this money that is available for your clubs.
Finally, I want to come closer to home and remind all of you about the Region 17 Select Stallion Auction and Futurity (http://www.selectstallionauction.com/stallions). The new committee spearheaded by Tammy Hayward has revitalized this program. There are many breedings still available for the 2017 auction year and you can see those stallions and the members of this hard working committee on the link above. Some facts about our Stallion Auction that you might want to know or share with friends:
⦁ From the start of the SSFA in 2012 – 2017 29 horses have shown and the pay-out to those 29 horses has been $36,226.72!
