Global Investors for Sustainable Development Alliance

The magnitude of financing required to implement the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development is significant, yet to date, levels of investment have been insufficient. While public resources will be essential, the mobilization of the private sector is critical to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

To help address this shortfall, the Secretary-General is convening the Global Investors for Sustainable Development (GISD) Alliance as part of his Strategy for Financing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The group is aimed at leveraging the insights of private sector leaders to remove impediments and implement solutions for mobilizing resources for sustainable development.

Anti-Semitism ‘toxic to democracy’, UN expert warns, calling for better education

Campaign highlights gross paradox of hunger and food waste

... The World Food Programme’s (WFP) #StopTheWaste campaign aims to shine a spotlight on this global issue and highlight simple solutions we can all take to prevent it. 

“Hunger remains one of our most solvable challenges, as the world produces more than enough food to feed everyone,” said Corinne Woods, Chief Marketing Officer for WFP. “In some developing countries, up to 40 percent of food produced is lost before it even leaves the farm gate.

#StopTheWaste’s primary goal is to raise awareness among the general public to be more conscious of food waste — one of the fundamental steps toward eradicating global hunger — by asking them to look in their refrigerator and create a meal out of ingredients they might otherwise throw away.”...

Sexual Violence in Conflict: Youth Speak Out through the Arts

This exhibition marks the ten-year anniversary of the 2009 mandate to combat sexual violence in conflict and provokes reflection on what the future may hold. It casts a spotlight on the plight of victims and survivors of conflict-related sexual violence, as seen from the perspective of young, emerging artists from diverse backgrounds working in New York, as well as two young artists working in Iraq, a country torn by war.

The exhibition is organized by the Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict.

UN Day Concert 2019

The Civil Society Unit in DGC is pleased to inform all DGC-associated organizations that there are tickets available to attend the UN Day concert, in celebration of the 74th Anniversary of the United Nations.

Time: 16:00 to 18:00
Please note the following: 
1. The Civil Society Unit will distribute 50 #UNDay Concert tickets on 24 October 2019, from 12:00 to 14:00. Each organization is eligible to retrieve up to two tickets.
2. DGC will only issue tickets to DGC UN Grounds Pass holders. ECOSOC Grounds Pass holders are not eligible to receive a #UNDay ticket from DGC, even if the organization is associated with DGC.
3. The Civil Society Unit will distribute the tickets on a first-come first-serve basis during the aforementioned hours. Please note that the tickets will be distributed at the Resource Center. Representatives will need to present their UN Grounds Passes in order to retrieve their tickets.
4. All concert attendees must hold UN grounds passes. Tickets will not be valid without a UN grounds pass.
If you are unable to attend the concert you may follow it live on UN Web TV.

Chat Series “Green Climate Fund: Raising Ambition and Empowering Action” 

On Tuesday, 15 October 2019, the Civil Society Unit held a Chat Series event titled “Green Climate Fund: Raising Ambition and Empowering Action” in collaboration with colleagues from Green Climate Fund. H.E. Mr. Luis Alfonso de Alba, the Secretary General’s Special Envoy for the Climate Summit, and H.E. Mr. Martin Bille Hermann, Permanent Representative of Denmark to the UN also joined the panel discussion which was moderated by Jeff Brez, Chief of the NGO Relations, Advocacy and Special Events Section.
The Chat introduced the Green Climate Fund, its objectives and financing mechanism, and focused specifically on the current process of replenishment. In addition, special attention was devoted to the role of civil society in the work of the Green Climate Fund. The questions and comments from the audience indicated the engagement and commitment of civil society representatives to climate action in general and support to the work of the Green Climate Fund in particular.
