Dear Congregants,

With everyone’s safety in mind, and to limit the risk of COVID-19, we are cancelling the Jurassic Purim Carnival scheduled for Sunday, March 8, from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM. The nature of the carnival, where physical contact is not limited, presents an unnecessary risk for our community. Please note: There is currently no known exposure to our congregants or facilities.

The Purim Shpiel will run as scheduled at 11:00 AM in the Fifth Avenue Sanctuary, and we will offer packaged snacks to take home. We are excited to perform our dino-mite shpiel and encourage you all to come in your best Purim costumes, ready to celebrate. If you cannot attend the shpiel, we will be livestreaming on our broadcast page as well as our Facebook page.

Please note, at this time:
  • Our Megillah Reading and Fifth & 65th Purim events are still happening.
  • All Shabbat services, the Women’s Auxiliary Dinner, Union Prayer Book Minyan, and our Saviv service are still happening. After Shabbat services we will offer a pre-packed oneg option.
  • Religious School is still open for classes on Sunday morning and Monday afternoon.
  • Emanu-El Explorers will still meet.
  • We continue to follow the recommendations of the NYC Department of Health and CDC regarding the evolving status of COVID-19 and will update our members immediately should conditions at the temple change.

The Department of Health and CDC recommend the following precautions:
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue or sleeve (into the bend of your elbow)
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
  • Wash your hands regularly with soap or use alcohol-based hand sanitizer
  • Avoid touching your face, or at least wash/sterilize your hands before you do
  • If you are at an event that serves food, be mindful. Do not cough or sneeze near the food. Do not handle food directly; use utensils when moving food to your plate
  • Get your flu shot – it’s never too late
  • Stay home if you’re feeling sick.  Call your doctor and let them know your symptoms, travel history, and if you’ve had contact with people who are sick
