Welcome to the first ever IDA newsletter. The objective of this newsletter is to keep sailors informed of what is happening with the class on an International level. This first newsletter is a recap of 2019 National and International events and event dates for your 2020 diary.
Thanks to the commitment of Dart 18 sailors all around the World we have enjoyed some great one-design sailing and racing in 2019. There’s a lot of time that goes into planning National and International events and the IDA would like to thank on behalf of Dart sailors everyone that has been involved in organising some fantastic events this year.

News from Windsport

Dear Dart Sailors,

As the 2019 sailing season draws to a close in the northern hemisphere and the temperature drops, we thought it would be a good opportunity to update you all on what is happening at Windsport, and our plans for 2020.

The 2019 Dart 18 sailing season has been a busy one, covering much of the world. The year started with the World Championships in Thailand, followed by the European championships in France and then many national championships and open meetings around Europe.

We at Windsport would like to send a huge “thank you” to the IDA committee and all the individuals who made these events happen. Dart 18 sailing teams from far and wide were drawn to these events by brilliant and committed organisers, that’s what made them so good.
The Windsport are already looking forward to attending a number of events in 2020, meeting Dart sailors from around the world, chatting with them and sharing their enthusiasm for the class.#

Changes to the Windsport Team

This is probably the biggest news for us, and while wont effect you guys at all, it has been a big shift for us. As you may know, after over 30 years at the helm Brian & Cookie are taking a step back from running Windsport and long standing Windsport crew Tom Phipps & Alex Metcalf are taking hold of the tiller. We are in the midst of an 18-month hand over to allow for a smooth and seamless transition. We will be looking to the future while maintaining the deep roots that have grown over the years and the strong ties we have with the class. With a wealth of both technical and sailing knowledge, Tom and Alex are really excited to continue pushing the popularity of the boat and welcoming new sailors to the fleet.

It is an exciting time for us, and we cannot wait to continue supporting you guys. The Dart family is something unique to the class and plays a huge role in keeping it successful, It a privilege for us to work with such a great group of people and we can’t wait to help take dart sailing into a new era.

Warm regards from

Tom & Alex and the Windsport team
