“Change your leaves, keep intact your roots.” ~ Victor Hugo
Dear CalSAC Community,

It is with great joy and gratitude that we share with our CalSAC community the news of two leaders who will be departing the organization this year.

As she enters her 12th year with CalSAC, Ruth Obel-Jorgensen will lead us through one final milestone – her executive transition.
During her tenure, Ruth has worked tirelessly to build a thriving organization that leads with integrity and upholds an unwavering commitment to equity-driven leadership. She has championed the heart of the organization – our trainers, fellows, advocates, volunteers, staff, and board – while strengthening our infrastructure and advancing our mission.
Ruth led CalSAC from the brink of collapse to embracing a vibrant new brand; has grown the largest network of trainers while establishing the first statewide fellowship for leaders of color; launched the first giving campaign in the organization’s history while transforming the board of directors into a fundraising body; empowered young leaders and youth voice – challenging norms and changing the face of leadership in the organization and the field; and so much more.
Ruth would be the first to say that she didn’t do this alone, and it is her humility, courage, and nimble approach to leadership that has led us to where we are today. In her final year with CalSAC, Ruth will gift us a thoughtful and generous transition that will continue the robust legacy of this institution for years to come. Ruth will be with us through December 2019 and will continue to lead the organization as our transition team, made up of board and staff, works with Mosaic Consulting to lead the search process for the next executive director of CalSAC.
We invite you to read our Executive Transition Plan  and how we will involve the community in this unique opportunity. You can also read what Ruth has to say about her decision to depart at this point in CalSAC’s journey and what she has in mind for the future. We hope you’ll also join us in celebrating and honoring Ruth’s legacy and impact at various events throughout the year.
On March 15th, after nearly 6 years with the organization, Aleah Rosario will be departing CalSAC for a position with the Foundation for California Community Colleges where she will support the advancement of the CDE Expanded Learning Division’s new workforce development strategy. We are excited that Aleah will continue to be an influential leader in the field and that her talents and experience will shape the future of workforce development efforts in the state.
Aleah has been a force in advancing our leadership, equity, and advocacy work and we trust she will continue to be in her new role. In the next month, we will assess our capacity needs, strengths and opportunities to inform our next hire – stay tuned for a job announcement! Read more about Aleah’s accomplishments and journey ahead here. We also invite you to share your words and images of gratitude with Aleah in our virtual farewell card.
As the president of the CalSAC Board of Directors, I assure you that CalSAC remains committed to the development of our workforce, elevating emerging leaders, advancing leaders of color, and building a culture of civic engagement toward a more just and equitable society for young people.
While we may be changing our leaves, our roots are strong and our commitment unwavering. We look forward to having your support along the journey ahead and invite you to join us as we enter the next historic and bold venture!
