The City of Edmonton and 27 other government partners in the Startup in Residence (STIR) program. STIR connects startups with government agencies to help startups secure contracts in the public sector.
There are 80+ challenges for startups to solve across areas such as data analytics, AR, geo services, mobility, and resiliency. The 16-week, mostly remote residency begins at the end of January.
We would love to see as many startups from the area participate as possible, whether on a challenge for the City of Edmonton or for the challenges from one of the other cities such as Portland, Miami, San Francisco, and Las Vegas.
The application deadline is coming soon (November 7). Fortunately, the application process is very simple for the startup to complete.

EDMONTON—After undertaking one-time collaborations, such as the autonomous vehicle pilot project, the City of Edmonton and the University of Alberta plan to formalize their partnership by joining the MetroLab Network.
The network brings together municipalities and universities to work on analytical or innovative projects that help solve common municipal issues, such as traffic, urban development and even climate change.
Although the university has worked with the city before on projects, joining the network will open up opportunities to learn from other city-university partnerships.
The MetroLab Network, which was created in 2015 and is based in Washington, D.C., hosts more than 35 city-university partnerships. If Edmonton accepts, it could become the first city outside of the United States to become a partner.
