Wimbledon ballot 2019

Time is running out to get your name in the hat for Wimbledon tickets this year - you need to be a British Tennis Member and have opted-in by this Friday to qualify (and of course be a member of Pocklington Tennis Club when we carry out our draw).

It's FREE to become a British Tennis Member and the more people from the Club who opt-in, the more tickets we'll be allocated.

It's open to Senior Members and Juniors aged 11+

League Team News

The 2019 season will soon be upon us (the Driffield league starts on 30th April), so it is time to look at our teams for this year.

As always, we welcome everyone who is interested in playing and we'll be holding team nights from 11th March (Tuesday - Mixed, Wednesday - Ladies, Thursday - Men) starting at 6pm each evening.

This year we will be entering 5 mixed, 4 ladies and 2 men's teams in the Driffield League, 1 team in the Fulford Ladies Invitation League and 1 in the Tyke Petroleum York Men's Tennis League.

The captains are:
  • Mixed A: Lisa Eade
  • Mixed B: Jim Holding
  • Mixed C: Val French
  • Mixed D: Jean Hunter
  • Mixed E: Angi Collins
  • Men’s A: Dave Thompson
  • Men’s B: Dave Gamble
  • Ladies A: Mel Duncan

York Leagues

  • Ladies : Louise Durkin

A huge thank you to all of the captains - without you we simply wouldn't have any teams.

The amazing Tennis For Kids programme will get them sorted with 6 group lessons, a tennis racquet, some balls and a personalised T-shirt - all for just £25.

Clubhouse Tidy Morning

With all of the work that has gone on at the Club, mixed in the bad weather and the busy scheudle that has been kept up over winter, the Clubhouse is in need of a little tlc.

We'll be having a bit of a tidy up on Friday 8th March at 11am - it would be great to see a few members down there to help out for a short while.

After all, many hands make light work...

Marketing Update

Pocklington Tennis Club leaflet
We're extremely proud of our Club and the way it has developed over the past few years, so we want to tell everyone about it and, hopefully, add to our membership.

We now have a leaflet promoting the Club which we will be distributing in the area to places such as the new estates, schools and local businesses.

A big thanks to Chiropractic Plus who have sponsored the leaflet.

If you would be interested in joining us to distribute these leaflets, or if you have access to anywhere that may take a few of them, please email james@pocklingtontennis.com.

Horsley Trophy

This year's Horsley Trophy will take place under floodlights!

This friendly competition is open to all members whatever your ability and, whilst it is a doubles tournament, you don't need to worry about finding a partner. Couples will be sorted on the night with everyone swapping around and keeping their own personal score.

Date to be announced soon.

Club Development Update

Most of the main work at the Club has been completed, but there is still more to do.

We have already installed the floodlights, extended the Clubhouse, added security fencing, and improved the car park surface but we've now moved on to looking at the pathway to the Clubhouse and the replacement of the current decking. Once finished the whole area will be better to look at, more resilient to bad weather and accessible to wheelchair users.

Please bear with us whilst these improvements are being completed.

Ball Donation To Hearing Dogs For Deaf People

Hearing Dogs For Deaf People
Ever wondered what happens to our tennis balls after we've finished chasing around after them? Well this year we've given a lot of them to Hearing Dogs For Deaf People so they can chase after them!
It was great to visit Hearing Dogs for Deaf People in Bielby to make our donation of used tennis balls; it's such a wonderful cause.

We hope that the dogs enjoy playing with the balls as much as we did!

New Season Begins 1st April

A quick reminder that the Club year begins on 1st April 2019 so memberships need to be renewed - unless you are already paying by standing order, in which case there is no need to change anything.

The cost of membership has remained the same as last season and membership forms are available to download from the membership area of the Club's website.

Why not pay monthly? Take a look at our standing order option.
