Please welcome Tech Exchange’s new Executive Director, Ulises Zatarain! With more than fifteen years in leadership positions with nonprofits and educational institutions, Ulises (pictured here L-R with Founding Director Bruce Buckelew) brings a wealth of experience serving youth and families in under-resourced communities.

Most recently, as the Senior Director of Education and Workforce Inclusion for the Arc San Francisco, he developed partnerships with numerous companies in the Bay Area and implemented new mentoring and volunteer outreach programs. He also played a leadership role in creating a three-year strategic plan with a keen focus on building social equity and anti-racism programs.

As Executive Director of 42 Silicon Valley, a free coding school, Ulises spearheaded partnerships with community colleges and other organizations to increase tech industry career pathways for students from under-represented groups, establishing programs that are now in place in the Bay Area, Boston, and Mexico. In his role as Director of Program Operations for Saint Vincent De Paul Society of San Francisco, Ulises oversaw all major programs for the organization and the implementation of strategic objectives, as well as the negotiation of vital government contracts, and played a key role in growing the organizational budget from $10M to $15M.

Ulises also served as Program Director at the U.S. National Arboretum in Washington, D.C., overseeing youth education and public outreach programs, and spent a fair share of his career in Chicago as VP of Community Programs for The Resurrection Project, where he implemented education, economic development, and community engagement initiatives.
He also has teaching experience as an Adjunct Faculty Professor teaching Literature, History, and Humanities courses at St. Augustine College in Chicago. Ulises has a Master of Arts from Northeastern Illinois University and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Advisory Board members, staff, and interns gathered at our Oakland warehouse on Friday, November 4, to welcome Ulises and celebrate Tech Exchange’s recent hard work and support for our programs. Advisory Board Chair Cynthia Mackey, Founding Director Bruce Buckelew, former Executive Director Seth Hubbert, and Interim Executive Director Ben Delaney joined in the fun and shared their congratulations.
I am extremely grateful and excited to join the Tech Exchange team, and help take the organization to great heights,” says Ulises. “I am very passionate about social equity, and I see access to technology as the great equalizer to begin to create a more just and equitable society. I look forward to the future ahead, and getting to know the Tech Exchange community.

Google Volunteers

On October 20, Tech Exchange was delighted to host four volunteers from Google in our warehouse.

These volunteers helped the warehouse team refurbish more than 50 televisions in 2 hours - and we had a great time doing it. This small-but-mighty team was extremely efficient!

If you are interested in volunteer opportunities with Tech Exchange, as an individual or as a group, give us a call or email us at support@techexchange.org to get the conversation started.

Thank you, Google team!

MetWest Interns
Tech Exchange is excited to announce that six interns from MetWest High School in Oakland are joining the team.

MetWest will support these paid interns as they work at our Oakland warehouse, learning about computer hardware and refurbishment. Interns will also work at our Oakland TecHub, gaining valuable tech support and customer service experience.

Tech Exchange's workforce development program is also supported by the Barrios Trust and Alameda County StopWaste.

Thank you, MetWest, and welcome interns!
